Breakfast Bar
The Breakfast Bar may not look like much from the outside – it’s a small tropical beach-like hut – but the food is varied and delicious. From roti canai and spicy nasi lemak to delicious fresh baguettes and savoury scrambled eggs; the owner, Mukhtar, is a teh tarik master and more importantly the fare here is affordable.

Red Tomato Splash Beach Café
This particular tomato is quite difficult to locate – the entrance is shaded by trees and the flanking buildings seem to dwarf it. Run by expats, it serves some of the best western food on the island. The interior is jungle-green and fire-engine red; the pizzas are especially tasty and the prices are pretty reasonable. Try the toasted sandwiches and bruschetta; the pleasant staff will serve you anything from the breakfast menu all day long as long as the eatery isn’t too crowded.

Wonderland Food Restaurant
Locals claim that Wonderland serves up the best seafood on Langkawi Island; offering local favourites of traditionally cooked seafood entrees, the chilli crab is especially flavoursome. Service is friendly and prompt and the atmosphere is lovely.

Ablaze with twinkling garden lights and featuring a manmade waterfall, this eatery serves up excellent Chinese seafood. Although the eatery’s atmosphere isn’t exactly special, service is prompt and friendly. Try the dry chilli chicken, sizzling beancurd or the abalone and sea cucumbers if you’re feeling adventurous.

Water Garden Hawker Centre
During the day this kopitiam serves up mouth-watering local favourites. Try the tantalisingly sumptuous mee java goreng, the kway teow teng and the deliciously varied mixed rice. At nights this eatery is transformed into a seafood restaurant; its location in the city centre makes it especially popular and locals frequently patronise this place.

This restaurant is known as one of the cheapest places in Langkawi for excellent fare at cheap prices; locals swear by this eatery, filled with plastic tables and chairs, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. The 24-hour joint serves up tasty food no matter the hour; food is always fresh and although the outside seating area is as hot as blue blazes, the food makes the agony worthwhile.

Service is prompt and the interior is dimly lit by red lights. Specialties include roti bom, naan, tandoori chicken and briyani rice as well as the teh tarik.

Fat Mum’s Seafood Restaurant
Known as one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Pantai Tengah area, Fat Mum’s has fresh seafood cooked in a variety of different ways; the best thing about the food here is the fact that it tastes delightfully home-cooked. The menu also includes a selection of Western cuisine; try the noodles-on-fire, the spicy garlic lobster and the butter prawns.

This traditional Malay-style restaurant looks like a super-sized kampung house; the menu is an upscale and less spicy execution of traditional Malay dishes such as rendang and creamy-coconut curry fish. The courtyard boasts a beautifully decorated pond and fountain with lush greenery and a scattering of earthen pots all over the place. Try the Langkawi Malay-style juicy tenderloin beef and potato wedges stir-fried with dark soy sauce and spices and udang kebab serai – grilled prawns skewered on lemon grass stems.
